Wire-Running Drum / Wire Storage Spool
The wire-running drum (also known as storage spool or wire spool) is the core component of the WEDM wire transport system, used to wind and store the molybdenum wire electrode, achieving reciprocating wire travel through forward and reverse rotation. Common specifications are Φ155×240mm and Φ155×220mm. The drum body is made of aluminum alloy or stainless steel with dynamic balancing and surface hardening treatment for low vibration and noise at high speed. The drum surface features helical grooves or a smooth design that, together with the lead screw traversing mechanism, winds the molybdenum wire in an orderly manner. Reliable securing devices at both ends prevent wire slippage. The roundness, cylindricity and dynamic balance accuracy of the drum directly affect wire tension stability, and thereby machining accuracy and surface quality — a critical functional component.
